THE ORGANIZATION
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.
 
THE OPPORTUNITY
FSWC seeks an experienced Educator to join the education department. As an FSWC Educator, you will be responsible for leading innovative and inspiring programming in both in-person and virtual formats for elementary and high school students across Canada.
 
You will:
• Learn and lead students in both in-person and virtual formats through our Equity & Diversity student workshops,
• Learn and lead students through our Tour for Humanity workshops,
• Contribute to the development of new educational programs and experiences that align with the goals of FSWC,
• Build and maintain educational networks with teachers and community educators to ensure repeat and frequent re-booking, as well as participation in other educational programs,
• Build and maintain relationships with survivor communities,
• Assist with the planning, promotion, and successful execution of all educational events,
• Support other FSWC team members as needed leading up to and during annual organizational events (i.e., Spirit of Hope, Voices of Change, etc.).
 
YOU ARE SOMEONE WITH:
• A knowledge and understanding of Holocaust and genocide education along with the fight
against hate, discrimination and antisemitism and the protection and advancement of human rights nationally and globally.
• Strong and engaging presentation skills and creative approaches to generating interactivity with students in both virtual and in-person formats.
• Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent experience along with a comprehensive knowledge of curriculum expectations an asset.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle that allows you to travel to schools (required).
• Superior relationship-building and communication skills ensuring the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
• Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
• Self-motivated and decisive with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
• A solid understanding of technology and how to navigate a variety of platforms (including zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, etc.).
 
WHAT YOU BRING:
• A knowledge and passion about the Holocaust, genocide, and more general human rights issues from both an historical and contemporary perspective.
• Bachelor’s degree in an associated field.
• Experience working with elementary and/or high school-aged students.
• Flexible schedule that is open to early mornings and a willingness to travel across Canada to present programs to students from 8 to 18 years of age.
• Ability to teach in French an asset.

CONTENT CREATOR – SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Available to students or recent graduates (within the last 6 months) under 30 years of age

Reporting to: Digital Marketing and Social Media Lead
Start Date: May 2024
Position: Full-time summer internship (Paid)
Location: In-person in Toronto, ON

THE ORGANIZATION:
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a not-for-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
FSWC seeks an intern for the content creator role to join the communications and marketing department. The role will focus mainly on video content for TikTok and Instagram Reels. As a content creator, you will be responsible for editing existing FSWC footage into innovative and creative content for our social media platforms. The role will also entail working with the Digital Marketing and Social Media Lead on other social media posts, as well as assisting in digital marketing for events.

You will:
·       Work with the communications and marketing team to create effective and creative social media posts, specifically focusing on video content
·       Edit existing video for TikTok and Instagram Reels, as well as longer video for YouTube
·       Assist in digital content needed for events or social media
·       Write copy and draft social media posts
·       Monitor TikTok and Instagram comments
·       Offer support wherever it is needed with the communications and marketing team

YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO IS:
·       Well-versed in social media platforms, specifically TikTok and Instagram
·       Strong video editing skills for social media – any level of experience is welcomed
·       Experience with graphic design and editing static content for social media
·       Working knowledge of Canva
·       Able to keep up with trends on social media
·       Passionate about Holocaust and antisemitism education

ADVOCACY – SUMMER INTERNSHIP

THE ORGANIZATION:
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a not-for-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Advocacy Intern will work closely with the Advocacy team at FSWC to support research and writing efforts related to antisemitism and hate targeting the Jewish community. This position offers a unique opportunity for someone interested in building a career in Jewish community advocacy to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and impactful organization.

You will:
·       Conduct research on issues related to antisemitism, hate speech, and discrimination targeting the Jewish community.
·       Assist in drafting advocacy materials, including reports, briefs, and statements.
·       Monitor and analyze developments in antisemitism and hate crimes.
·       Support advocacy campaigns and initiatives to combat antisemitism and promote human rights.
·       Collaborate with other team members to develop strategies for engaging policymakers, stakeholders, and the public on these issues.
·       Attend and report on relevant events, conferences, and meetings.
·       Perform other duties as assigned to support the Advocacy team.

YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO:
·      Nearing graduation or recent graduate of a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Political Science, International Relations, Jewish Studies, Human Rights).
·      Has a strong interest in and knowledge of Jewish community advocacy and human rights issues.
·      Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
·      Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
·      Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
·      Previous experience in advocacy, research, or related fields is a plus.
