CONFRONTING ANTISEMITISM: BUILDING BRIDGES THROUGH CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS

In response to the alarming increase in antisemitism in our society, Jewish Canadians are seeking relevant tools to effectively confront the hatred they may be subjected to in their daily lives and to engage their peers in meaningful dialogue about their experiences. This workshop provides an in-depth exploration of the multifaceted forms antisemitism takes in contemporary society, equipping participants with insight and practical strategies. It encourages participants to reach outside of their comfort zone when safe and possible in order to build allyship through constructive dialogue.

Historical Context: Delving into the historical roots of antisemitism, the workshop explores its evolution over time, including contemporary manifestations, such as the "new" antisemitism. By understanding these historical underpinnings, participants can better contextualize current challenges and responses in a way that is clearly understandable and accessible for those outside our community.

Understanding Antisemitism in Canada: A specific focus of the workshop is on antisemitism in Canada today. Participants gain a nuanced understanding of local contexts and challenges, enabling them to address antisemitism effectively within their daily lives.

Empowerment: This workshop to empowers Jewish community members to confidently discuss antisemitism with individuals from diverse backgrounds, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate these discussions with sensitivity and clarity.

Communication Strategies: Attendees learn effective communication strategies to convey the impact of antisemitism on individuals and communities and to build allyship. This includes techniques for fostering empathy, initiating productive discussions and advocating for inclusive practices that combat antisemitism and promote respect for diversity.

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be equipped not only with enhanced awareness and knowledge of antisemitism but also with practical tools and strategies. They will be able to contribute to creating environments that reject anti-Jewish hate and promote principles of tolerance, inclusion, and mutual respect.
