On February 26, students across Canada will wear their pink shirts and stand up against bullying to mark Pink Shirt Day. This annual event started in 2007, after a grade 9 student in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt to school. In support of him, two grade 12 students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, bought 50 pink shirts and distributed them throughout the school. Rodney MacDonald, then premier of Nova Scotia, proclaimed in recognition of these events, that there would be a “Stand Up Against Bullying Day.” Originally held in September, it is now celebrated in Canada on the last day in February. In 2024, more than 110 countries participated in Pink Shirt Day activities!
