Toronto (May 28, 2018) - Friendsof Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) welcomes today’s visit by Israel’s Ministerof Economy and Industry, Eli Cohen, to Canada. Cohen will be meeting with TheHonourable François-Phillippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade, toengage in discussions on strengthening trade ties between Israel and Canada.
“This is a positive meeting thatshows the strength in the relationship between Israel and Canada, particularlyin the areas of economy and trade,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.“Clearly the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement is failing in itgoal to restrict the import of Israeli goods and pressure governments intolimiting relations with Israel.”
According to a news release from Global Affairs Canada,the ministers will be in Montreal and Toronto over the next two days, meetingwith business leaders and members of the Jewish community. Last year, two-waymerchandise trade between Israel and Canada was valued at more than $1.7billion.
