Toronto (December 18, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is encouraging Canada to stand in support of Israel during a UN vote on an anti-Israel resolution today.
The resolution, titled “The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” is set for a final vote by the General Assembly today. Last month during a preliminary vote, Canada voted in favour of the resolution that is co-sponsored by the Palestine Liberation Organization and North Korea and implies Israel is exclusively responsible for the Palestinian people’s self-determination– a decision that FSWC expressed disappointment in.
“Given the expected vote at the UN today, I encourage Canada to stand with Israel, its ally in promoting democracy and human rights and a strong trading partner,” said FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo. “The country must continue to send a strong message against the bias and singling out of Israel that regularly occurs at the UN.”
