TORONTO (July 10, 2017) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends York Regional Police for laying charges after discovering antisemitic, anti-Black and homophobic images and words on the exterior walls of Woodbridge College in Vaughan.
"We are pleased to see that York Regional Police has taken this case very seriously and has taken the steps to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice," says Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.
On June 30, FSWC was the first to break the story after receiving an anonymous tip with photos of the graffiti. At least three swastikas were drawn, with one adjacent to a phallic symbol and another drawn as part of a Nazi flag. A plane crashing into the Twin Towers with the words "Jews did 911" was also drawn.
Benlolo continued to work with York Regional Police and lead inspectors of the Hate Crimes Unit following the incident.
FSWC has offered its fullest extent of educational resources, including the Tour for Humanity and workshops, to Woodbridge College and other schools in York Region.
