Toronto (September 4, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is monitoring a police investigation in Cobourg after a Nazi flag was placed outside a home late last week.

The Cobourg Police Service has informed FSWC that the incident is under investigation and is being treated as mischief. According to police, the family living in the home is not Jewish and was not involved in the incident.

“Clearly,this is a hate incident and should be treated as such. Whoever placed the flag most likely understands the flag’s history and the message it sends,” said FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo.

“We urge police to treat this incident as a hate crime and for anyone in the neighbourhood who has security footage that could be helpful to come forward.”
