Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is calling on members of the Jewish community and all Canadians to sign a petition urging for the renaming of Swastika Trail, a street in the Township of Puslinch. The petition is sponsored by Member of Parliament Bryan May and can be found here.
The street was named in 1922, by which point the swastika was already closely associated with Germany’s Nazi Party. For years, FSWC has supported the efforts of local residents of Puslinch – including those who live on Swastika Trail – to change the name of the street, but these efforts have continued to be rebuffed by municipal office holders. The swastika is a symbol of hatred and genocide towards Jews as well as other groups, and it is unacceptable for any street in Canada to bear its name.
