FSWC Troubled by Discovery of Another Canadian Military Member with Neo-Nazi History

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is extremely troubled by the discovery of yet another member of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who has a history of neo-Nazi activity. The discovery was made by the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, which revealed yesterday that a young man named William Condie had signed up as a user of the neo-Nazi forum Iron March back in 2017 while he was already a member of the Canadian military.

CAF has confirmed to FSWC that Condie remains a member of the reserves and it has launched an investigation. FSWC has requested a meeting with CAF leadership to discuss the matter and offer recommendations to ensure CAF anti-hate directives are enforced and members involved in hate activity are identified and removed.

Hamilton Councillors to Ban Nazi Swastikas, Confederate Flags from City Property

Hamilton city councillors unanimously voted on Monday to ban hate symbols from city property and approve 18 recommendations to fight hate in the city, including creating a way to map local hate incidents, creating an action plan and investing funds toward prevention and safe spaces instead of punitive measures. FSWC commends Hamilton - a city that has one of the highest rates of hate crimes in Canada - for taking this important and laudable step.

Anne Frank Statue Unveiled in Edmonton as Tribute to Canadian Nazi Liberation Efforts

A statue of Anne Frank, commemorating Canada’s role in liberating the Netherlands from Nazi tyranny, was unveiled in Edmonton's Light Horse Park on Sunday. “It will serve as an everlasting reminder for all of us that, however dark our future … we must never lose hope in the goodness of mankind,” said Frank Stolk, president of the Dutch Canadian Club, which commissioned the statue.

On Friday morning, Hezbollah fired 19 rockets at Israel, 10 of which were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system. This appeared to be the first time since 2006 that Hezbollah openly claimed responsibility for an attack on Israel.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid travelled to Morocco today to inaugurate the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat. His two-day visit to the country is the first by an Israeli foreign minister since 2003.

Jewish Athletes Celebrate Olympic Success at Tokyo Games

Many in the Jewish world are sharing in Israel’s record-setting four medal wins at the just-concluded 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Leading the pack were rhythmic gymnast Linoy Ashram and men’s gymnast Artem Dolgopyat, both of whom captured gold medals. A number of sports stars with connections to the Jewish community in the diaspora also celebrated their medal wins.
