STAND UP TO HATE

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center has launched a community-wide petition to call upon Ontario's Attorney General, Yasir Naqvi, to respond to the Jewish community's complaints and concerns. Help FSWC get the message across that hate crime and hate speech cannot be tolerated in Canada.

WATCH: Petition calls on AG to prosecute hate crime and hate speech 

FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo spoke to CityNews about why the organization is calling on the Attorney General - who is in charge of reviewing police investigations and signing off on charges - to prosecute hate crime and hate speech. He says it may be easier for police to lay charges and then let the legal system take action.

FSWC Cautions Canadian Government About Funds Going to UNRWA

Following an announcement that the Government of Canada will continue to offer support of up to $25 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees, FSWC expressed why funding calls for concern - including the agency's ties to the terrorist group Hamas and support of summer camps that prepare children for war with Israel.

Police Seeking Help to Identify Suspects After Antisemitic Graffiti Discovered in Markham

On Wednesday, York Region Police released security camera footage of three male suspects who are believed to be responsible for the antisemitic and racist graffiti that was discovered at three Markham schools. Police are asking the community to come together and bring forward information that may help find those responsible.

Swastikas and Racist Graffiti in Yellowknife Under Investigation

Yellowknife RCMP are investigating antisemitic and racist graffiti that was discovered in an underpass. In a statement, RCMP said they are looking into not only charges of damaging property, but possibly also charges of hate propaganda.

Montreal Book Fair Helps Holocaust Survivors Tell Their Stories

A book fair that was held in Montreal yesterday showcased the work of Holocaust survivors, providing them an outlet to tell their stories of survival. Attendees had the opportunity to meet survivors, who expressed their hope that others can learn from the past.

More Than Two Dozen Antisemitic Incidents Occured in U.S. Following Charlottesville

According to a Huffington Post article, more than two dozen antisemitic incidents occurred in the U.S. since the hateful and violent rally in Charlottesville, including synagogue doors and windows being shattered, swastikas being spray-painted in public places, and antisemitic flyers being distributed. Similarily, numerous antisemitic incidents took place in Canada, which FSWC has kept track of on fswc.ca under the antisemitism tab.

UN Chief: Calls for Destruction of Israel Are 'Modern Antisemitism'

During a meeting today with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that calling for Israel's destruction is a "form of modern antisemitism" and he is committed to treating Israel with impartiality. Guterres also paid a visit to Yad Vashem and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Frankfurt Becomes First German City to Pass Anti-BDS Law

Frankfurt became the first city in Germany to pass a bill that outlaws municipal funding of the anti-Israel BDS movement. The city's deputy mayor and city treasurer, Uwe Becker, said that "the BDS movement does not only strongly resemble the 'Don't buy from Jews' argumentation of former times of the National Socialists, but the movement is built on the same toxic ground and it is poisoning the social climate in the same dangerous way."

Israeli Doctors Return to Africa to Put Smile on Children's Faces

Two plastic surgeons from the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa - a hospital that treats a wide range of patients, including Palestinians and those from Syria and other Arab countries - just returned from a mission in Ghana where they worked on correcting facial deformities in children. The surgeons joined a team of surgeons and medical staff from 12 countries.

During talks with UN SecretaryGeneral Antonio Guterres, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahustated that Iran has been buildingsites in Syria for manufacturing missiles to be used against Israel.He also pressed Guterres on the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, whichhas allegedly failed to prevent Hezbollah from building up its supply ofweapons. In response, Guterres said he will do everything in his capacity toensure the force fulfills its expectations.

FollowingSunday's ceasefire agreement between Daesh and the Lebanese army, Syrian armyand Hezbollah, preparations began today for escortingDaesh fighters to eastern Syria from their enclave on the border withLebanon. This is reportedly the first time a forced evacuation from Syrianterritory has been publicly agreed to by Daesh.
