FSWC Once Again Urges Canada to Suspend Funding to UNRWA After Report Reveals Dozens of Agency Employees Promote Antisemitism and Violence
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is once again calling on Canada to suspend its funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and hold the agency to account after a report published yesterday revealed that more than 100 of its educators and staff have publicly promoted antisemitism and violence on social media, and that on numerous occasions the agency has failed to dismiss teachers who incited such hate.
‘Absolutely Reprehensible’: UBC Student Victim of Antisemitic Attack in Residence
On July 22, the mezuzah of a University of British Columbia student in residence was removed and vandalized by three individuals, an incident UBC Housing called "absolutely reprehensible" in an email to those living in residence. FSWC denounces this despicable act of antisemitism and is pleased that both the university and RCMP are taking this incident seriously and investigating.
Antisemitic Social Posts 'Not Taken Down' in 80% of Cases
Research by the Center for Countering Digital Hatred revealed that major social media platforms fail to take down more than 80% of antisemitic posts. The Center had reported more than 700 posts containing "anti-Jewish hatred" - including Holocaust denial and conspiracy theories - to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube, but fewer than one in six were acted on.
German Court Sets Trial Date for Former Nazi Guard, Aged 100
The trial for a 100-year-old man, who is charged with 3,518 counts of accessory to murder on allegations he served as a Nazi SS guard at Sachsenhausen concentration camp, is set to begin in early October. Authorities say that despite his advanced age, the suspect is considered fit enough to stand trial.
