Toronto City Council Passes Motion Proclaiming International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Toronto City Council voted unanimously today to mark January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day and set the day aside to commemorate and teach about the Holocaust. The motion was introduced by Councillor Mike Colle and seconded by Councillor James Pasternak following an ongoing advocacy effort by FSWC.

Canada Losing Moral High Ground by Voting Against Democratic Friend and Ally, Siding With North Korea, Zimbabwe, Nicaragua and Egypt

FSWC is extremely disappointed in Canada’s decision to ratify its vote in favour of an anti-Israel resolution at the UN. Once again, Canada was one of 167 countries that voted in favour of the resolution titled “The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” which went to a final vote today by the General Assembly following last month’s preliminary vote.

Airbnb Bans Members of Defunct Neo-Nazi Website Iron March

Six weeks after the entire database of the neo-Nazi forum Iron March was leaked, Airbnb announced that it has banned 60 accounts belonging to the forum's members. "Anyone sympathetic to neo-Nazi ideology and violent extremism has absolutely no place on Airbnb, and our community is a better place without them," Airbnb said in a statement.

Cyprus Becomes 17th Country to Adopt International Antisemitism Definition

Cyprus announced today that it is adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of antisemitism, making it the 17th country in the world to do so. In a statement, the Cypriot government said its decision "reaffirms the commitment of the Republic of Cyprus to promoting and fostering respect and diversity and to combating all forms of discrimination, racism and xenophobia, including antisemitism."

UNESCO Cuts Ties With Belgian Parade Over Antisemitic Float

On Friday, UNESCO officially withdrew the Aalst annual carnival from its List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity over "recurring repetition of racist and atnisemitic representations," including a float that featured caricatures of large-nosed religious Jews standing next to bags of money.

‘Forbes’ Names Tel Aviv Second-Best City in World to Visit in 2020

In its list of top cities to visit in 2020, Forbes named Tel Aviv as the second-hottest world destination after Los Angeles, citing its sandy beaches, Bauhaus architecture and ancient history as some of the reasons to visit.
