FSWC Update: Michael Levitt Joins Canadian Delegation to the IHRA
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center is pleased to share that President and CEO Michael Levitt was recently named a member of the Canadian delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. The delegation, led by Special Envoy Irwin Cotler, is dedicated to strengthening Holocaust education, combatting antisemitism and advancing the implementation of the IHRA definition of antisemitism in Canada and abroad.
EU Body Calls for ‘Mainstreaming Fight Against Antisemitism’ in Europe
The Council of the European Union adopted a declaration today calling on its 27 member states to adopt a series of policies to combat antisemitism. The declaration stated it is "our permanent, shared responsibility to actively protect and support Jewish life" and called for numerous actions, including punishing those who engage in online hate speech, finding ways to remember the Holocaust and using the IHRA working definition of antisemitism.
Germany Bans Pro-Nazi Group That ‘Wants to Re-Establish Dictatorship'
The homes of 11 members of the far-right group Wolfsbrigade 44 were raided by police this week after the German government banned the group. Weapons and Nazi devotional objects were found at the homes of the members, who are known for wanting to re-establish a Nazi dictatorship and abolish democracy.
Slovenia Declares All of Hezbollah a ‘Criminal and Terrorist Organization’
Earlier this week, Slovenia announced that it designated Hezbollah in its entirety a terrorist organization that poses "a threat to peace and security," joining a growing number of European states who have taken similar steps in recent weeks.
