FSWC Calls on Ottawa Newspaper to Retract Article Promoting Holocaust Distortion, Disinformation

FSWC is calling on the Ottawa Citizen to retract a disgraceful opinion piece it recently published that distorts the Holocaust and spreads disinformation about it. In an opinion piece published on December 19, titled "Ottawa's National Holocaust Monument must include Ukrainians," Royal Military College of Canada professor Lubomyr Luciuk says "the National Holocaust Monument intentionally ignores the suffering of millions of people" by emphasizing the murder of six million Jews during the Holocaust, something he claims is "discriminatory messaging" and "perpetrating a prejudice."

Saskatchewan Adopts IHRA Definition of Antisemitism

On Monday, the Government of Saskatchewan announced its adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. FSWC joined other Jewish groups in commending the government for its decision, with President and CEO Michael Levitt stating, “By adopting the IHRA definition, a critical tool that helps institutions recognize and confront antisemitism, the government sends a message to the Jewish community in Saskatchewan and across Canada that it is a committed ally in the fight against Jew-hatred.”

German Court Convicts 97-Year-Old Ex-Secretary at Nazi Camp

Irmgard Furchner, 97, was handed a two-year suspended sentence yesterday for aiding and abetting the murder of more than 10,000 people when she worked at Stutthof concentration camp between 1943-1945. FSWC joins Simon Wiesenthal Center in welcoming this conviction, a piece of justice as the clock ticks to convict former Nazis and their accomplices.

Holocaust Survivors Share Message of Hope During Hanukkah

Holocaust survivors from around the world gathered yesterday to mark the third day of Chanukah together. In his message to fellow survivors, Holocaust survivor and Nazi hunter Serge Klarsfeld called Hanukkah "a great reminder to think of the hope we all carry...It is that hope that saw me through the Holocaust, fuelled my career bringing Nazis to justice and it is that hope that I carry with me today when I see so much antisemitism and hatred in the world."
