
Auschwitz Survivors Mark 80th Anniversary of Liberation From Nazi Death Camp
Fifty-six Holocaust survivors gathered with world leaders and European royalty on Monday to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Gathered at the site of the former death camp, survivors called on those in attendance to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and warned of rising antisemitism and hatred in the modern world.
80 Years Later, Auschwitz Survivors Fear Rising Hate Could Bring Another Holocaust
"Auschwitz didn’t come down from the sky. It started with words, and it ends with a chimney, being burned and going out in smoke," said Canadian Auschwitz survivor Howard Chandler. "Nobody, except the Holocaust survivors who experienced this, can feel what is coming. It’s not only our duty, but the duty of humanity to make sure it doesn’t happen to anybody." He and fellow survivor Miriam Ziegler met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while in Krakow, Poland on Monday for events marking the anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation.
Survey Says More Young Canadians Believe the History of the Holocaust Is Exaggerated
A panel survey commissioned by the Association of Canadian Studies last spring found 18 per cent of Canadians between 18 and 24 years old agreed with the statement "I think the Holocaust was exaggerated." The survey queried 1,519 Canadians between May 17 and May 20, 2024.

Israel’s national archives announced Monday they were granting public access online to 380,000 pages of "chilling testimony, correspondence, lists and photographs" from the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann.

Yuval Raphael, a survivor of the Nova music festival massacre, will represent Israel in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. She secured the position last Wednesday when she won Rising Star, the Israeli TV show that produces each year’s Eurovision entrant.
