63 Canadians killed in plane crash near Tehran

Sixty-three Canadians were among the 176 people killed after a plane en route to Kyiv crashed near Tehran minutes after taking off. Considered one of the worst aviation disasters involving Canadians, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada will "work closely with its international partners to ensure that this crash is thoroughly investigated." FSWC sends thoughts and prayers to the victims of this tragedy and their families.

Granby Man Charged with Inciting Hate, Advocating Genocide

FSWC commends police for their quick arrest of a man in Granby, Quebec accused of inciting hate online. The man was charged yesterday with inciting hate and advocating genocide after his online posts on a Russian social media site – which reportedly included statements such as “the concentration camp is the greatest Nazi innovation” and that promoted purchasing weapons to hunt minority groups – were exposed by a local professor on Sunday.

FSWC Condemns Swastika Vandalism in Alberta

FSWC condemns the hateful act of vandalism in the small Alberta town of Athabasca that left a taxi cab covered in spray-painted swastikas. The taxi driver said this was not the first time his car had been targeted by vandals, according to news reports. FSWC has reached out to Athabasca RCMP to demand a quick and thorough investigation.

‘More than a dozen’ missiles fired at Iraq bases housing U.S. troops, Pentagon says

Iran fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at two Iraqi military bases that house American troops early on Wednesday, a response to the U.S. killing Iran's most powerful military commander Gen. Gassem Soleimani.

Former national security advisor John Bolton, who will be speaking at FSWC's upcoming Spirit of Hope Benefit, said on Monday that he is "prepared to testify" if subpoenaed by the Senate in its impeachment trial of US President Donald Trump.
