Antisemitic Graffiti on Winnipeg Community Centre Act of 'Pure Hatred'
Antisemitic graffiti, including five swastikas, was spray-painted on the outside of the Westdale Community Centre in Winnipeg during the last days of Hanukkah. Winnipeg police are investigating and the city was contacted for cleanup. Both Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew denounced the incident, with Kinew stating, "We must honour the survivors of the Holocaust and live up to our global commitment of 'Never Again' by calling out those voices of hatred who use the images of that dark era in human history such as in this incident. This is why we are making Holocaust education mandatory in Manitoba."
FSWC Calls on Canada to List Antisemitic, Anti-Western Group as Terrorist Entity
FSWC is urging the Canadian government to add to its official terror list the radical Islamic organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, which advocates for the re-establishment of an Islamic caliphate governed by Sharia law. Widely condemned for its antisemitic, extremist rhetoric and glorification of terrorism, the group has been banned in many countries, including the UK. FSWC's appeal to Ottawa comes as the Canadian branch, Hizb ut Tahrir Canada, prepares to host a conference on January 18.
Terrorist Threat to Canada ‘Has Rarely Been Higher,’ Report Says
A report released today by the Ottawa firm Insight Threat Intelligence found a "statistically significant" surge in terrorism charges between 2007 and 2024. While most of the 73 charges during that period involved "religiously motivated" terrorists, specifically followers of "jihadist groups" like the Islamic State and al-Qaida, the last four years saw "an increase in diversity of motivation, with ideologically motivated individuals also being charged with terrorism offences."

IDF Says the Body of Hostage Youssef Ziyadne Found in Gaza, ‘Grave Concerns’ for Son’s Life
The body of hostage Youssef Ziyadne, 53, who was abducted by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, was recovered by the Israeli military from a tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday night, the Israel Defense Forces announced on Wednesday. In the same tunnel, the IDF said it located findings that linked to Ziyadne’s son Hamza, which the military said raised "grave concerns for his life."
SWC Releases List of Top Ten Antisemitic Incidents in 2024
Last week, the Simon Wiesenthal Center released its end-of-year "Top Ten Worst Global Antisemitic Incidents" for 2024. Beyond #1 which is Iran’s genocidal axis of evil; the 2024 list highlights the growing normalizing of violence against Jews, Israel and the targeting of synagogues and Jewish students on elite campuses; the deadly double standard of UN agencies, NGOs, and international Courts; and the pernicious influence of antisemitic social media influencers from Greta Thunberg to Candace Owens.
Names of 425,000 Suspected Nazi Collaborators Published
The names of around 425,000 people suspected of collaborating with the Nazis during the German occupation of the Netherlands have been published online for the first time. The archive contains files on war criminals, the approximately 20,000 Dutch people who enlisted in the German armed forces, and alleged members of the National Socialist Movement (NSB) - the Dutch Nazi party.
Ágnes Keleti, Legendary Gymnast and Olympic Champion, Dies Aged 103
Hungarian 10-time Olympic medallist and Holocaust survivor Ágnes Keleti, who was known as the oldest living Olympic medal winner, died last week at the age of 103. "Ágnes Keleti has demonstrated the power of strong determination and courage to overcome tragedy when she, born to a Jewish family, survived the Holocaust and went on to win ten Olympic medals after World War II, five of them Gold," said International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach. "This is truly awe-inspiring."
Los Angeles Area Synagogue Totally Gutted in Wildfire, Other Jewish Institutions Threatened
The Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, a Los Angeles area synagogue, has now been completely gutted by fire, with other Jewish institutions also threatened by massive wildfires sweeping through the region.

The Brutalist, an epic about a Holocaust survivor and acclaimed architect in the postwar United States, had a big night at the Golden Globe Awards, taking home prizes for best motion picture drama as well as for its director, Brady Corbet, and star, Adrien Brody.
