Canadian Nationalist Party Flyer Refers to Jews as 'Liars and Deceivers' and a 'Tribe of Parasites'
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has filed a hate speech complaint with the RCMP against Canadian Nationalist Party (CNP) leader Travis Patron after a flyer calling Jewish people "liars and deceivers" and a "tribe of parasites" was posted on CNP's social media pages on Saturday.
The flyer, titled "Beware The Parasitic Tribe" and signed by Patron, quotes a video in which Patron refers to "these people" who "infiltrate the media, they hijack the central bank, and they infect the body politic like a parasite," and states "what we need to do...is remove these people, once-and-for-all, from our country." Below the quoted text, the flyer includes the following statement: "The people we speak of are not truly 'Jews'. They are liars and deceivers attempting to shield themselves from criticism using a false identity. Let us be aware and expose them for what they are: a tribe of parasites."
#JewishPrivilege Trends on Twitter as Activist Fights Back Against Antisemites
The hashtag #JewishPrivilege trended on Twitter on Monday as users of the social media platform shared their experiences of antisemitism. In response to an antisemitic trend accusing Jews of being privileged, writer Hen Mazzig took to social media to share the story of his grandparents being violently forced out of Iraq and Tunisia for being Jewish with the hashtag #JewishPrivilege. The post was retweeted more than 1.4 thousand times, with famous Twitter users around the world sharing their stories of antisemitism.
Austria to Create Award Named for Simon Wiesenthal
An Austrian parliamentary committee passed an amendment last week to create an award named for Simon Wiesenthal to encourage the fight against antisemitism. The winner of the award would receive about $17,000, and two additional awards of about $8,500 each would go to those who have made a “special civil society commitment against antisemitism and for education about the Holocaust.” The amendment is expected to be formally adopted this week.
'We Made a Gigantic Mistake': Retailer Shein Apologizes for Selling Swastika Necklace
Online fashion retailer Shein has apologized after coming under fire last week for selling a swastika necklace. In a statement released on Friday, the Chinese retailer said it "listed a Buddhist swastika necklace for sale" but that it made "a gigantic mistake by selling a product that's hurtful and offensive to many of you and we're so, so sorry." The company quickly removed the necklace from its website following outrage on social media.
