University of Windsor Hit with Backlash for Striking Deal with Pro-Palestinian Student Protesters

The University of Windsor faced harsh backlash last week after signing an agreement to appease anti-Israel protesters behind the encampment on its campus. "The university has chosen to ignore the Jewish community’s concerns over the encampments set up at Canadian universities, where protesters have used intimidation tactics and espoused antisemitic sentiments, and instead taken a disturbing anti-Israel stance that will further cause harm to the university’s Jewish students and faculty and undermine its credibility as a respected institution of higher learning," said FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt.

Jewish Advocates Say Details Around Investigation into Human-Rights Chief Murky

Weeks after promising to perform a "formal, independent review" of the appointment of Canada's new chief commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, Birju Dattani, the government hasn't provided details about the investigation to Jewish groups. Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, director of policy and advocacy at FSWC, said the organization is disappointed it hasn't heard from Minister of Justice and Attorney General Arif Virani.

Most B.C. Residents Believe Jewish Canadians Unfairly Targeted Over Israel-Gaza Conflict: Poll

The latest polling from Research Co. found 66 per cent of B.C. residents either "strongly agree" or "moderately agree" that Jewish Canadians are being "unfairly targeted" as a result of Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza.

A London doctor and post-graduate student at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine has sparked outrage over a video posted online in which she called for "death to Israel and death to Zionism." Western’s Schulich School of Medicine and the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons both declined to comment.

Marvel Strips Jewish Superhero Sabra of Her Israeli Identity

Marvel Studios' decision to strip the Israeli identity of its Sabra superhero character in the new film Captain America: Brave New World, played by Israeli actress Shira Haas, has sparked criticism from the Jewish community. In Marvel Comics in the 1980s, Sabra was known for serving Mossad and fighting for the State of Israel, but in the upcoming film, she's instead described as a "Black Widow," a Marvel figure who is linked to the world of Russian secret intelligence.

Canada Joins 35 Other Nations, Organizations in Endorsing Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism

Today in Buenos Aires, Canada and 35 other countries and organizations endorsed the Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism, a series of legally non-binding best practices for states and international bodies to embrace to help combat antisemitism. Canada's Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism, Deborah Lyons, who represented the country during today's gathering of special envoys and other representatives in Argentina, said the new guidelines "will help our countries take a unified stand against Jew-hatred and terrorism at a time when the surge of antisemitism is being felt here in Canada and around the world."

Argentina Declares Hamas a Terrorist Organization, in Move Designed to Show Support for Israel

Argentina has officially designated Hamas an “international terrorist organization,” President Javier Milei's office announced on Friday. The announcement cited Hamas’s attack on Israel on Oct. 7, the group’s links with Iran and a recent landmark ruling by Argentina’s judiciary that Iran was the architect of two deadly terror attacks in Buenos Aires in the 1990s.
