TODAY: Canada Convenes National Antisemitism Summit After Rise in Hate Incidents

The Canadian government is hosting a National Summit on Antisemitism this afternoon, bringing together politicians and members of the Jewish community to engage in discussions about ways to combat antisemitism.

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center is participating in today's National Summit on Antisemitism, with our directors of policy and education delivering recommendations to government leaders on policies that are critical in the fight against antisemitism. The summit must lead to real action, not words.

A New Era of Hope Burgeoning in Middle East

Ben & Jerry’s Melts Under BDS Pressure, to Stop Selling in Settlements

On Monday, a Ben & Jerry's statement announced the company's plans to boycott West Bank settlements and Jewish neighborhoods in east Jerusalem by refusing to allow its products to be sold in those areas. In an online post, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center criticized Ben & Jerry's, stating the company's decision demonizes Israel and that it was "falling for the lies spread by the antisemitic BDS movement."

Anger as French Protesters Compare Vaccines to Nazi Horrors

French officials and anti-racism groups joined a 94-year-old French Holocaust survivor in denouncing anti-vaccination protesters comparing themselves to Jews who were persecuted by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. As more than 100,000 people marched around France against government vaccine rules on Saturday, some demonstrators wore yellow stars while others carried signs evoking the Auschwitz death camp or South Africa's apartheid regime.

Lapid Taps Ex-Party MK for Long-Vacant Canada Ambassador Post

The former Knesset member was nominated by Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid on Monday. The position has been vacant since January 2020, when Nimrod Barkan stepped down. Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center congratulates Ronen Hoffman on being appointed as Israel's next ambassador to Canada and looks forward to working with him to help advance strong Canada-Israel relations.
