Avi Benlolo met with Toronto Police today to discuss this weekend’s antisemitic hate crime and rising concerns in the Jewish community. "Toronto Police is doing excellent work and we stand with them in their effort to serve and protect the people of Toronto," said Benlolo.
FSWC Condemns Antisemitic Vandalism in North York
FSWC condemns the recent antisemitic graffiti found outside the Beth Jacob Synagogue in North York over the weekend. The German word "Achtung" – which translates to "danger" or "attention" – was spray-painted on a Holocaust education sign featuring Holocaust survivor Max Eisen. Toronto police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Israel Evacuates Hundreds of Rescue Workers from Syria
In coordination with the US and European allies, Israel has evacuated hundreds of Syrian rescue workers, known as the White Helmets, from Syria to Jordan. The move came after the US, Canada, Germany and the UK asked for help with the evacuation of civilians due to an immediate threat to their lives.
2 Killed, 13 Injured in Toronto Mass Shooting
A mass shooting on the Danforth in Toronto last night resulted in the deaths of two victims and 13 others injured. Police, who are looking into what prompted the attack, said the suspected gunman is dead. FSWC is saddened by this latest attack in the city and sending sincere condolences to the families of lost loved ones and wishing everyone injured a speedy recovery.
Hate-Motivated Material Distributed in Medicine Hat
Police in Medicine Hat, Alberta are investigating two incidents involving hate-motivated material that was recently distributed, including pamphlets promoting the website of an anti-immigration group led by Paul Fromm, a notorious white supremacist based in Canada, and with phrases such as “stop white genocide,” “white self-hate” and “Jewish supremacy.”
Israel's Youth Basketball Team Crowned European Champions
Israel's national under-20 basketball team won its first gold medal at the FIBA U20 European Championship on Sunday. The team beat the previously undefeated Croatian team 80-66.
Risking Torture and Death to Save Jews During the Holocaust
On the 30th anniversary of the project "Rescuers," photographer Gay Block is looking to bring back the exhibit that tells the stories of non-Jewish Europeans who risked torture and death to save Jews during the Holocaust. One of these rescuers is Countess Maria von Maltzan, a Berlin veterinarian who saved Jews by hiding them in her home.

At least 14 people have been reportedly killed in protests against corruption and lack of public services in Iraq. Around 275 protesters and 470 security personel were wounded during demonstrations against corrupt officials, while over 800 had been arrested and reportedly later released.
In an article published on July 15 in the Saudi government daily Al-Yawm, Saudi journalist Sukina Meshekhis called on Arab countries to take bold steps in advancing peace with Israel. She went on to say that Arabs have missed too many opportunities to make peace with Israel, stopping them from developing and advancing. In recent reports, MEMRI has noted an increased number of Saudi intellectuals, journalists and commentators expressing support for Israel.
