1. Simon Wiesenthal Center Honours Former Mexican Ambassador to UNESCO

In honour of his stance against UNESCO's Executive Board resolutions in Paris in October - which denied Jewish and Christian ties to Jerusalem - Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) presented former Mexican Ambassador Andrés Roemer with an award. In a letter to the Director-General of UNESCO, Roemer had stated, "UNESCO must be committed to its mandate. The mandate of conscience and human dignity...  Today the resolution presented here demands that we raise our voice and redouble our efforts against any speech, or statement that incites to xenophobia, discrimination or depreciation of the other." SWC praised the valor and values of the diplomat.
