Mainstreaming of Jew-Hatred in Canada

"For the first time since the Holocaust, we’re seeing the mainstreaming of antisemitism in Canada," writes FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt in his latest column in the Toronto Star. "No longer veiled, it’s perpetrated openly by certain educators, journalists, politicians, religious figures and other influencers. Their targeting of Jews is often predicated on ignorance, and fuelled by social media epithets and tropes. They pervert and weaponize language in the service of their obsessive disdain for the Jewish state."

Canadian Labour Congress Endorses Embargo on Arms Sales to Israel; Boycott on Goods from the Settlements

Canada’s leading labour organization has endorsed a call to boycott goods produced in Israeli Jewish settlements and is urging Canada to halt arms sales to Israel, among other actions concerning the Jewish state.

In a news release on June 21, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center said the council used “backdoor methods to ram through a resolution in support of a boycott of Israel.” FSWC has been in conversation with leadership in a number of Canadian Labour Congress affiliates as well as numerous union members from across the country who were bewildered and upset to find out that an anti-Israel resolution was passed behind closed doors.

EU Finally Releases Report of Incitement, Antisemitism in PA Textbooks

The European Union released its report on Palestinian Authority textbooks on Friday, showing dozens of examples of incitement to violence and demonization of Israel and Jews. Twenty-two members of the European Parliament from a range of major parties demanded last week that EU Commission withhold aid to the PA over the books.

German Government Agrees to Ban Hamas Flag After Antisemitic Incidents

According to a German newspaper report published on Sunday, all parties in Germany's grand coalition government have agreed to ban the flag of the terror group Hamas. The move comes after several antisemitic incidents occurred last month in Germany during anti-Israel rallies.

German Publisher Tells Workers to Go if They Oppose Israeli Flag on Headquarters

Top publishing executive Mathias Doepfner, who has described himself as a non-Jewish Zionist, told thousands of employees in a conference last week that "a person who has an issue with an Israeli flag being raised for one week here, after antisemitic demonstrations, should look for a new job." The statement came after some employees complained about his decision to fly an Israeli flag on the business's headquarters.

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis Helps Raise Funds to Restore Abandoned Synagogue in Hungary With Family Ties

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis said she is helping raise funds to restore an abandoned synagogue in eastern Hungary where her father’s family used to pray, and to turn it into a community center “for celebrations and art and music.”
