Time to Refocus on Holocaust Education

"Rather than using this dark chapter of history as a tool to be exploited for profit, to win an argument, or confer the ultimate 'victim' status, the Holocaust should cause us to look inward," writes FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt in his latest column in the Toronto Star. "It should motivate us to examine our own behaviours and prejudices and to recognize that hate-filled words and ideas have real world consequences."

Strong Criticism for Protestors Comparing Public Health Measures to Holocaust

During an anti-COVID restrictions rally in Calgary over the weekend, protestors were seen wearing the Star of David around their neck with the message “Mask Exempt,” sparking outrage. This comes amid news of numerous other hateful and disturbing incidents that have occurred in the city.

In an online post, FSWC stated: "We stand with the Jewish community and others in Calgary who are speaking out following a series of incidents involving hateful and disturbing violence and imagery. From Nazi salutes to protestors wearing yellow Stars of David in an attempt to compare public health measures to the Holocaust - there is no room for this type of ignorance and hate. A clear sign that we must continue to advance Holocaust education in our schools."

Canada Hits Chinese Officials with Sanctions Over ‘Gross’ Human Rights Violations in Xinjiang

On Monday, Canada joined the U.S., U.K. and EU in placing sanctions on four Chinese officials accused of human rights violations in Xinjiang. This comes one month after Canada's Parliament voted in favour of a motion recognizing the atrocities being committed against the Uyghurs in China as a genocide.
