FSWC Cautiously Pleased with SSMU Adoption of Working Definition of Antisemitism

On March 15, the Students' Society of McGill University (SSMU) Legislative Council approved a motion featuring a series of recommendations put forward by the SSMU's Special Committee on Antisemitism. One of the recommendations called for the adoption of a working definition of antisemitism.

Federal Grant to Enable FSWC Advocacy Efforts Across Canada

Communities across the country will be inspired by Simon Wiesenthal's legacy and have access to the unique educational experiences presented by FSWC thanks to generous funding from the Government of Canada. FSWC will apply this $177,000 grant towards mobilizing its Hate and Intolerance Workshops and the acclaimed Tour of Humanity mobile classroom to destinations outside Ontario.

Students Raise Their Voices at Speakers Idol 2018

Students raised their voices for a brighter future at yesterday's Speakers Idol 2018, which took place at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Audience members were captivated by the students' inspiring and encouraging speeches, which focused on Simon Wiesenthal's quote, "Freedom of speech is not freedom to propagate hatred." FSWC congratulates all of the finalists and winners on their incredible success and for being an inspiration to all.

Thousands March in Memory of Murdered Holocaust Survivor

Thousands of people in Paris participated in a march today in memory of Mireille Knoll - a Holocaust survivor who was recently murdered in what is being investigated as an antisemitic attack. Leaders of several political parties participated in the march. French President Emmanuel Macron, who recently reaffirmed his "determination to fight against antisemitism," had attended her funeral earlier in the day.

Dutch Hero Who Saved Hundreds of Children During Holocaust Dies at 107

Johan van Hulst, a former seminary leader and politician who helped hundreds of Jewish children escape the Nazis during the Holocaust, has died at the age of 107. Working with resistance activists, Van Hulst hid children in his school after their families had been rounded up and detained, and from there resistance activists smuggled the children to safehouses. In 1973, Yad Vashem recognized Van Hulst as a Righteous Among the Nations.

Children's Book Sparks Outcry for Featuring Hitler as One of World's 'Great Leaders'

A publisher based in India has been criticized after one of its books resurfaced, featuring a photo of Adolf Hitler as one of the world's "great leaders" on its cover. The cover also includes photos of Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama. Simon Wiesenthal Center's Rabbi Abraham Cooper spoke out about the book, stating: "Adolf Hitler was a visionary - his vision almost destroyed our planet; started the second world war, which left tens of millions dead and mass-murdered six million Jews during the Nazi Holocaust. Placing Hitler alongside truly great political and humanitarian leaders is an abomination that is made worse as it targets young people with little or no knowledge of world history and ethics."

According to a report released today, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has authorized payments of $158 to convicted terrorists and $197 million to families of terrorists in their 2018 budget - totaling $355 million, which is 7.47 per cent of the PA's $4.76 billion operational budget and some 44 per cent of the funding it hopes to receive in foreign aid this year.
