Victims of Bnei Brak Terror Attack: 2 Local Fathers, Christian Arab Cop, 2 Ukrainians

Five people were murdered yesterday in what was the third deadly terror attack in Israel in one week. The victims were named as officer Amir Khoury, 32, a Christian Arab; local residents Yaakov Shalom, 36, and Avishai Yehezkel, 29, both fathers; and Victor Sorokopot and Dimitri Mitrik, Ukrainian nationals.

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is sickened by this latest terror attack that took the lives of five innocent people. Our hearts are with the victims' families and all of Israel amid this wave of terror.

FSWC and TDSB Partner to Provide Toronto Schools with Holocaust and Human Rights Workshops

FSWC is pleased to be partnering with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) to deliver educational programs on the Holocaust, human rights and other related topics to Toronto public schools. Recently, the TDSB shared resources and promoted a series of equity and diversity workshops FSWC offers for students, as well as our mobile education centre Tour for Humanity, with all schools.

YRDSB Takes Action to Educate Students After Hate Graffiti Found at Newmarket Schools

The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) is taking action after antisemitic and other hateful graffiti was discovered at three Newmarket schools earlier this month. FSWC was quick to respond to the incidents, offering our educational programs to the affected schools.

We are now pleased to be working with the YRDSB as it takes commendable action to educate students and combat hate. FSWC's mobile education centre Tour for Humanity has been visiting the Newmarket schools to teach students about the Holocaust and the importance of standing up against hate and intolerance.

McGill Denounces SSMU Anti-Israel Referendum

The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center and B'nai Brith Canada welcomed an email from McGill University Principal and Vice-Chancellor Suzanne Fortier denouncing an anti-Israel resolution that was passed in a March 21 referendum by the members of the Students' Society of McGill University (SSMU).

"The current initiative by SSMU will lead to polarization that fosters a culture of ostracization and disrespect on the basis of students' identity, religious or political beliefs, is contrary to the University's core values of inclusion, diversity and respect, and will not be tolerated," the email read.

30th Annual Symposium on the Holocaust and Genocide Runs April 4-8

The 30th edition of the Vanier College Symposium on the Holocaust and Genocide will run from April 4 through 8 and will feature 14 presentations, all of which can be viewed via Zoom. Topics will include online antisemitism, Indigenous genocide and the Ukraine-Russia conflict. FSWC is pleased to be involved in this year's symposium.

‘Negev Summit’ to Become Regular Event for Israeli and Arab Parties to the Abraham Accords

The historic summit meeting between Israeli leaders and their counterparts from Egypt, Morocco, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates is set to become a regular event, Israeli officials announced Monday. During this week's first-ever Negev Summit, the countries discussed their growing ties with Israel and their desire to create a united front in opposition to Iran in the region.

Holocaust Survivors Rescued from Ukraine in 'Operation Survivor'

Valeriy Zharkovska is just one of an estimated 10,000 Holocaust survivors who were living in Ukraine at the start of the war. Now, he is one of hundreds of Holocaust survivors who are fleeing a war that is stirring up memories long since buried.
