FSWC Calls for Investigation Following Allegations that Canadian Aid Dollars Ended Up in the Hands of Terrorist Groups
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center has called on Canada's foreign affairs minister to launch an investigation following allegations that Canadian funds donated to international agencies for the purposes of coronavirus response ended up in the hands of anti-Israel terrorist groups.
Toronto School Vandalized with Antisemitic Graffiti
Toronto police confirmed with FSWC that a swastika and the words "all heil Hitler" were found drawn in chalk on Dublin Heights Elementary and Middle School, which is located in an area with a large Jewish population. A caretaker reported the graffiti to police yesterday.
FSWC Stands in Solidarity with Asian Community Amid Increased Hate Crimes
According to a statement released by the Vancouver Police Department late last week, to date in 2020 there are 29 anti-Asian crimes under investigation in Vancouver, up from four during the same period in 2019. FSWC denounces the increase in hate crimes targeting Canada’s Asian community and stands in solidarity with its community members.
More Than 2,000 Antisemitic Crimes in Germany, Highest Rate Since 2001
According to authorities in Germany, there were more than 2,000 crimes targeting Jewish people last year, a 13% increase from 2018 and the highest number of antisemitic crimes in the country since 2001.
Oklahoma Becomes 30th State to Enact Anti-BDS Law
Last week, Oklahoma became the 30th state to sign into law a bill to combat the anti-Israel BDS movement. The bill, which states Israel is one of Oklahoma's largest trading partners, prohibits the states from entering into contracts with entities that boycott Israel.
Norwegian Parliament Votes Against Bill to Label Products from Israeli Settlements
Legislation calling for Israeli imports originating in settlements to be labelled differently than other Israeli products was recently struck down by Norway's parliament. Norwegian lawmakers reportedly pointed out that as Palestinians often work at factories and plants in settlements, any boycott of Israeli goods would hurt Palestinians as well.
