Gunman in Pittsburgh Synagogue Massacre Harboured 'Malice and Hate' for Jews

The federal trial is underway more than four years after the massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh that resulted in the deaths of 11 Jewish worshippers. Yesterday, prosecutors described the deadly attack in front of 12 jurors and six alternates.

Polish MP Prevents Ottawa Professor's Lecture on 'Polish Problem with History of the Holocaust'

The Simon Wiesenthal Center's Efraim Zuroff issued a condemnation of an attack yesterday by a Polish MP against University of Ottawa professor Jan Grabowski, which prevented him from delivering a lecture at the German Historical Institute in Warsaw on the subject of "The (growing) Polish problem with the History of the Holocaust." Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center joins SWC in standing with Grabowski in support of his important research and outspokenness against Holocaust distortion, amid ongoing attempts in Poland to silence scholars who speak out on Polish complicity in the Holocaust.

More Than a Third of People in Hungary and Poland Have ‘Extensive’ Antisemitic Beliefs

According to a new survey by the Anti-Defamation League, a significant portion of people in European countries harbour antisemitic attitudes, including 37 per cent in Hungary, 35 per cent in Poland, 29 per cent in Ukraine, and 26 per cent in Russia and Spain. However, the latest statistics show a steep decline in antisemitic attitudes, with Poland, for example, seeing a decrease from 48 per cent in 2019.

Hamilton’s Neo-Nazis Claim to Be Part of the ‘Fastest Growing Nationalist Community in Canada’

A Hamilton Spectator investigation found that a local Hamilton group is part of a vast network of white nationalist channels hosted on Telegram that promote hate, Holocaust denial and Nazism. While public stunts make groups seem larger than they are, FSWC Director of Community Engagement and Allyship Dan Panneton said we shouldn't underestimate the threat, as some channels “are reaching tens of thousands of people.”

German Police Probe Roger Waters Over Nazi-Style Uniform

German police launched an investigation last week after Roger Waters appeared on stage wearing a Nazi-style uniform and firing an imitation machine gun. "We are investigating on suspicion of incitement to public hatred because the clothing worn on stage could be used to used to glorify or justify Nazi rule, thereby disturbing the public peace," a police spokesperson said.

Last week, U.S. President Joe Biden unveiled his administration's new plan to combat antisemitism, featuring a four-pronged strategy that includes increasing awareness and understanding of antisemitism and Jewish American heritage, improving safety and security for Jewish communities, reversing the normalization of antisemitism and countering antisemitic discrimination.

‘An Unfathomable Reality’: Father of Two Killed in West Bank Terror Shooting Buried

Meir Tamari, the latest Israeli tragically murdered in a terror attack, was laid to rest today on what would have been his 32nd birthday. Tamari was hit by gunfire while driving in northern Samaria yesterday, succumbing to his wounds shortly after being rushed to the hospital. He leaves behind his wife and two children - a one- and three-year-old.

Israel’s President in Baku to Further Strategic Partnership

Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku yesterday, strengthening the partnership between the two countries after Azerbaijan inaugurated its embassy in Israel earlier this spring.

“It is no secret that your country is a Muslim country with a predominantly Shi’ite majority and yet the level of love and affection that exists between our two nations is simply an example of how we can change the world and move forward,” said Herzog.

Israel advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup after a 1-0 victory against Uzbekistan yesterday. This is the first year that Israel’s national soccer team is participating in the U-20 World Cup and the first time ever that it is advancing to the quarter-finals.
