Community Leaders Call for Hate Crimes Protections After Toronto Jewish School Shot At

Michael Levitt, President and CEO of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, said Sunday outside Bais Chaya Mushka that antisemitism is on the rise and "Jews no longer feel safe in Toronto."

He said the government is allowing "terror-glorifying hate rallies" in Canadian cities, saying laws need to be more severe against gatherings promoting organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas, both of which are involved in ongoing conflicts with Israel.

A New Montreal Police Report Shows Jewish People Have Become the Most-Targeted for Hate Crimes

Jewish people are the single most targeted group for hate crimes and by a wide margin, especially after Oct. 7, according to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). The SPVM stated that 41 individuals were charged with hate crimes overall since Oct. 7, 2023, with 212 crimes and incidents targeting Jews reported.

Man Facing Hate Crime Charges for Stealing an Israeli Flag From a Car

A Toronto man is facing hate crime charges after he allegedly stole an Israeli flag from someone’s car in two separate incidents. Police say they received a call for a theft under $5,000 on July 30 near The Queensway and North Queen Street. The suspect allegedly approached a car and stole an Israeli flag from the vehicle. He then returned to the scene of the crime six days later and stole another Israeli flag from the same vehicle.
