Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center Files Complaints with Montreal, Toronto Police Over Protests

FSWC filed complaints with Montreal and Toronto police after demonstrators were spotted carrying pictures of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hezbollah flags at anti-Israel protests over the weekend. The organization, along with B'nai Brith Canada and CIJA, sent a letter to Justice Minister Arif Virani urging the federal government to ban the public display of flags and symbols of listed terrorist entities.

Toronto Police to Ramp Up Presence Ahead of Oct. 7 Anniversary

In a press conference earlier today, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said there will be an increased police presence across the city as the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel approaches. The Toronto Police Service will ramp up its officer presence and deploy three mobile command units to three predominantly Jewish neighbourhoods and one to various mosques.

NP View: The Odious Smear Campaign Against Heather Reisman and Indigo Books

"The lies being peddled against Reisman and her company are part of a broader campaign on the part of Hamas and its supporters to degrade global support for Israel’s right to defend itself and stem the flow of international investment and private charitable work in the Jewish state," writes the National Post editorial board. "In reality, Reisman should be celebrated as one of this country’s most successful entrepreneurs, and a woman who has shared her prosperity with the rest of society through her extensive charitable work."

Protesters Throw Incendiary Object at Officer, Damage Windows at Concordia University: Police

Several windows were damaged and spray painted with "Free Gaza" during a protest at Concordia University Sunday night. Several businesses were also vandalized and an incendiary object was thrown at a police officer during what Montreal police called an "impromptu" protest. Four individuals in their 20s were arrested but released without charges, and an investigation is ongoing.

Woman Assaulted, Subjected to Antisemitic Slurs at Duelling Protests: VPD

Vancouver police are investigating after a 34-year-old woman was "knocked to the ground, assaulted and subjected to antisemitic slurs" during a conflict that erupted between groups of protesters with opposing views about the war between Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah. FSWC, CIJA and the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver released a joint statement, saying, "What is clear is that allowing protests where hate is preached freely to continue without intervention will lead to more violent attacks. We call on our provincial and federal governments to ban Samidoun and immediately add it to the list of terrorist entities."

Opinion: Anti-Israel Protesters Hijacked Indigenous Suffering to Promote Hate

"The demonstrators hijacked the tragedy of Grassy Narrows to promote their own political agenda," write three Indigenous authors in a piece on the recent TDSB debacle. "Since when do we allow this? This is not education; it’s an attempt at indoctrination. Indigenous suffering was trivialized and used in the service of someone else’s false dogma."

Six Victims of Jaffa Terror Attack Named, as More Details About Shooting Emerge

Authorities on Wednesday named six of the seven people killed in Tuesday night’s terror attack at a light rail station in Jaffa. Sixteen others were wounded, in one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent memory. The six victims were named as Revital Bronstein, 24, from Bat Yam; Ilia Nozadze, 42, a Georgian citizen; Shahar Goldman, 30 from Lod; Inbar Segev Vigder, 33, Nadia Sokolenco, 40, and Jonas Chrosis, 26, a Greek citizen. The identity of the final victim was not yet cleared for publication.

Iran fired nearly 200 missiles at Israel, as Israelis raced for their bomb shelters and the country's missile defence system worked to intercept the incoming ballistics. A Palestinian man in the West Bank died after being hit by falling shrapnel and several buildings were damaged.

Man Is Sentenced to 35 Years for Shooting 2 Jewish Men as They Left Los Angeles Synagogues

A California man was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison for shooting and wounding two Jewish men as they left synagogues in Los Angeles last year, federal prosecutors said. The 30-year-old man pleaded guilty in June to two counts of hate crimes with intent to kill and two counts of discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

World’s Jewish Population Hits 15.8 Million, on Eve of Rosh Hashanah

The world’s Jewish population stands at 15.8 million on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, an increase of about 100,000 over the last year. The Jewish Agency said that 7.3 million reside in Israel, compared to 7.2 million last year, and of the 8.5 million Jews who live outside of Israel, 6.3 million live in the US and 2.2 million live in other countries, with the biggest populations in France (438,500) and Canada (400,000).
