FSWC Marks 9/11 Memorial Day
Today the world remembers the thousands of innocent people who were killed in the biggest terrorist attack in American history. On September 11, 2001, two planes were crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City while a third plane was crashed into the Pentagon and a fourth into a field in Pennsylvania. FSWC is marking 9/11 by encouraging its members to light a memorial candle in memory of the victims.
The Honourable Irwin Cotler to Speak at National Policy Conference
The Honourable Irwin Cotler will be joining an incredible lineup of speakers at FSWC's National Policy Conference on Holocaust Education - taking place on January 27 and 28, 2018. Cotler is the Chairman of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, an Emeritus Professor of Law at McGill University, former Member of Parliament, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and an international human rights lawyer.In 2014 he was elected Canadian Parliamentarian of the Year by his colleagues, and recently received the Law Society of Upper Canada's Inaugural Human Rights Award.

Manitoba Holocaust Survivors Speak Out Against Hate, Warn Residents
Following several hate incidents that took place in Manitoba - including antisemitic graffiti scratched onto sidewalks and a woman being verbally attacked by a self-proclaimed "Nazi" - Holocaust survivors are speaking out against hate and giving residents a warning of what it can lead to. According to CBC, Winnipeg Police Service Const. Rob Carver called Winnipeg's outbreak of incidents the most "significant" outbreak in his more than two decades on the job.
Israel Security Agency Has Thwarted 200 Terrorist Attacks So Far in 2017
During a Cabinet meeting yesterday, the director of Shin Bet - Israel's internal security service - announced that about 200 terrorist attacks against soldiers and civilians in Israel have been thwarted so far in 2017. More than 70 terror operations were foiled in July and August alone. The planned attacks included suicide bombings, shootings and kidnappings. The director went on to say that the period since the summer of 2014 has been the most peaceful in some three decades.

Goldin Family Meets with Ambassadors at UN
The parents of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin - who was kidnapped and killed in Gaza in August 2014 during a UN-sponsored ceasefire - were in New York on Friday holding a round of diplomatic meetings with ambassadors from several countries at the UN headquarters. The meetings were meant to increase pressure on the UN to demand Hamas to return the bodies of both Goldin and Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul to their families for burial in Israel.
Jewish Family Beaten and Robbed During Antisemitic Home Invasion Near Paris
According to reports, three individuals broke into a Jewish home near Paris, yelling "You are Jewish, you have money" to the family, and then attacked and robbed the family. France's interior minister, Gerard Collomb, said the initial findings suggested the motivation behind the attack "seems directly related to the religion of the victims." This incident occurred amid an increase in antisemitic violence in France.
Israel to Provide $1M in Aid to Jewish Community in Houston
Yesterday Israel approved a plan to send $1 million in emergency aid to the Jewish community in Houston following Hurricane Harvey. The aid is meant to help rebuild infrastructure - including synagogues, the Jewish Community Center and schools - that was damaged by the hurricane. Israel has also sent emergency aid to Miami ahead of Hurricane Irma and will be sending aid to Mexico following an earthquake that killed at least 90 people.

An attack on a security convoy in the SinaiPeninsula killed at least 18 and injured three Egyptian policemen.Militants initially detonated an improvised explosive device, which then led toa gunfight - which the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for. Since2013, Sunni militants have killed hundreds of soldiers and police officers inthe Sinai Peninsula.
Accordingto Shin Bet, Hamas has been strengthening its ties with Shiite axis led by Iranand is establishing a foothold in Lebanon with Iran's support. Inyesterday's briefing, the Shin Bet director went on to say that "despitethe relative calm, the security situation in the West Bank is fragile" andthat Hamas has been investing considerable resources in preparing for its nextconflict with Israel.
