Puslinch Township Votes to Rename Swastika Trail Following FSWC Advocacy

Today, Puslinch Township council voted 4-1 to rename one of its streets, Swastika Trail, following years of controversy. Ahead of the vote, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) Director of Policy Jaime Kirzner-Roberts presented a deputation to the council, in which she stated, “The fact that Puslinch has a street named after the Nazi symbol has remained a source of deep hurt for countless residents for too long.”

Alberta Adopts Working Definition of Antisemitism Amid 'Hate and Violence'

On Friday, the Alberta government adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, with the province's justice minister saying the IHRA definition can help with investigations of hate crimes due to a better understanding of what qualifies as antisemitism.

Over the weekend, FSWC congratulated the government of Alberta, which is now the fifth Canadian province to have adopted the IHRA definition after Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and New Brunswick.

Iran Protests: Death Toll Rises to 76 as Crackdown Intensifies - Rights Group

At least 76 protesters have been killed by Iranian security forces during 11 days of unrest, according to the organization Iran Human Rights. Anti-government demonstrations have spread to more than 80 cities and towns across Iran since the funeral of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman who was arrested earlier this month by morality police officers and died in hospital following three days in a coma.

FSWC stands in solidarity with the people of Iran who are protesting against the country's dictatorship and standing up for freedom and human rights.
