FSWC Stands in Solidarity with Jewish Students at U of T
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is standing in solidarity with Jewish student organizations that have expressed grave concerns over two courses being taught at the University of Toronto.
In a joint statement released yesterday, Hasbara Fellowships Canada, Hillel Ontario and StandWithUs Canada shared their objections to the content included in two courses called “Modern Palestine” and “Rethinking Palestine: Colonialism, Revolution and Transnational Solidarity.” The organizations said that “education surrounding topics such as colonialism can often be distorted when it comes to Israel” and expressed concern over “how the rhetoric in these courses will affect Jewish students on campus.”

A first responder, a veteran and a 77-year-old widower are among the victims identified in a stabbing rampage in Saskatchewan that claimed the lives of 10 people and injured 18 others.
In an online post shared on Sunday, FSWC said, "Our hearts are with the people of Saskatchewan following this tragedy. Sending thoughts and prayers to the families of the murdered victims and those injured. We await further updates on the motivation and hope for quick arrests to be made."
At Ceremony for 1972 Massacre, Germany Asks Forgiveness of Munich Victims’ Relatives
On Monday, the presidents of Israel and Germany led commemorations marking the 50th anniversary of the Munich Olympics massacre that resulted in the murder of 11 Israeli athletes and a German police officer by Palestinian terrorists. Germany's president asked forgiveness from families of the victims for the country's "inadequate protection afforded to the Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games at Munich and the woeful investigation afterward."
This Holocaust Survivor and Brazilian Swimming Champion Is Still Competing at 98
Last month, Holocaust survivor Nora Tausz Ronai participated in the 400-metre medley at the Pan American Games in Medellin, Colombia. She is 98 years old. In addition to breaking several national and regional records for her age groups at Brazilian, South American and Pan American Games since she started swimming competitively at age 69, her story of Holocaust perseverance has added to her local legend.
Petition Launched for Public Inquiry into Funding for Laith Marouf's Organization
A petition to the Canadian Parliament has been initiated by community member Michael Teper and endorsed by MP Melissa Lantsman (Thornhill), calling on the federal government to launch a public inquiry to investigate how Laith Marouf's organization, the Community Media Advocacy Centre, was able to get public funding for anti-racism programming despite the man’s long history of posting hateful, antisemitic messages on social media.
