Toronto (July 8, 2020) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends DoorDash for recently joining other platforms, including Uber and Ritual, in standing against Foodbenders' antisemitic and discriminatory behaviour.

In response to a letter FSWC sent to DoorDash urging the platform to stand with the message "that hatred or glorification of violence towards Jews" will not be tolerated and sever its relationship with the Toronto-based company, DoorDash informed FSWC yesterday that it has removed Foodbenders from its platform "for failure to follow the community guidelines and our partner code of conduct" and that the company does not tolerate "malicious, discriminatory or hateful behaviour."

“We are witnessing here corporate citizenship at its very best,” said Rabbi Meyer H. May, Executive Director of Simon Wiesenthal Center. “These companies are sending a powerful message that hate will not stand in our community and are outstanding models for other companies to emulate.”

FSWC also commends Toronto Mayor John Tory, who yesterday added his name to a long list of political leaders who have denounced Foodbenders' antisemitism. He tweeted, "There is no place for this type of hate or discrimination in our city or anywhere else in Canada. I stand with Toronto’s Jewish community in condemning this type of hate and intolerance and commit to continuing to build up our city as a place that is inclusive of everyone."

FSWC had recently urged Mayor Tory along with local political leaders City Councillor Ana Bailão, MPP Marit Stiles and MP Julie Dzerowicz to join the public condemnation of the antisemitism promoted by the Foodbenders.

“The blatant antisemitism promoted by Foodbenders is totally unacceptable and must be rejected unequivocally by all community and political leaders,” said Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, Director of the Campaign Against Antisemitism at FSWC. "Politicians are obligated to ensure the communities they represent remain safe, welcoming and free of the hatred of the likes we have seen coming from Foodbenders."‍

Foodbenders has stated on social media that “Zionists” are not welcome on its premises; “Zionists are Nazis”; Jewish groups “control your media and elected officials”; Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is a “Zionist puppet” and the only solution to these problems is “intifada,” which refers to violent uprising against the Jewish state. The company has also promoted anti-Israel terrorist slogans and has glorified terrorists, including convicted plane hijacker Leila Khaled.
