Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center Launches New Publication; Praises 22 Ontario School Boards on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

In recognition of International HolocaustRemembrance Day, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies(FSWC) has launched a compilation of essays by 22 Canadian politicians, activists, writers, religious leaders and celebritiestitled “Reflectionson the Holocaust and Antisemitism.”“To commemorate the Holocaust, and to help in the battle to confront Holocaustdenial with the truth, I am proud to launch this selection of essays focused onthe experiences of well-known Canadians in dealing with antisemitism personally,or witnessing it from the sidelines,” explained FSWC President & CEO AviBenlolo.

“I also commend the 22 OntarioCatholic and public school boards that have signed on to FSWC’s January 27thinitiative to recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day in all schools intheir boards. This year more than one million Ontario students will benefitfrom educational activities designed to further understanding of human rights,tolerance and respect for diversity based on this initiative, and I am trulydelighted to see the welcome response from teachers to this important project,”he added.

To assist educators inteaching about the Holocaust, FSWC has published a Teacher’sResource Guide with suggestions for age-appropriate activities and ideasfor Holocaust commemoration. In addition, FSWC’s new website www.neverforgetme.ca offers compelling eye-witness survivor testimonyand the stories of several Holocaust survivors for use as a teaching tool.
