Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) applauds thelaunch of a new policy guide from the United Nations Educational, Scientificand Cultural Organization (UNESCO) titled “AddressingAnti-Semitism Through Education.”

The study acknowledges that antisemitism has become“increasingly mainstreamed” and that its impact reverberates beyond the Jewishcommunity. It also warns against addressing antisemitism exclusively in thecontext of the Holocaust, because students may wrongly conclude it was solely aproblem of the past.

In addition, the policy guide contains a list ofconspiracy theories and stereotypes used to justify antisemitic behavior andprovides a roadmap for policymakers and educators to teach students aboutantisemitism and respond effectively to any incidents that may arise.

“Thisreport comes at a critical time in our history when antisemitism has reached atipping point,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “As an organizationdedicated to promoting tolerance and countering hate, we know first-hand theimportance of grassroots education in stemming the growing tide ofantisemitism.  We applaud the release of this new policy guide and encourageits implementation among educators, policy makers and law enforcement officialsacross the globe.”
