Toronto (August 9, 2018) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is calling on Canadian elected officials to condemn the Hamas terror group for its ongoing violent attacks against Israel.

Since yesterday, more than 150 rockets and mortar shells were launched into Israel from the Gaza Strip, hitting several communities in the southern part of the country.

“Hamas is designated by Canada as a terrorist organization. Its launching of rockets against civilians is a war crime,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “Canadian leaders must unequivocally condemn its attack on Israel.”

Most of the rockets hit open areas, while several hit homes and factories in Israeli communities. The country’s Iron Dome defence system destroyed 25 of the rockets. Thousands of Israelis have been sent to bomb shelters and at least 11 have been reportedly injured.
