Toronto (October 10, 2023) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is calling on the Ontario New Democratic Party to immediately remove MPP Sarah Jama from its caucus following her abhorrent statement on the war in Israel that she published on social media, just months after she sparked anger in the Jewish community over her previous antisemitic actions.

FSWC issued the following statement:

“The statement from Jama on social media, which refuses to acknowledge the atrocities committed by the terror group Hamas against Israeli civilians, is deeply troubling. After more than 900 people, including infants and the elderly, were brutally massacred, and numerous others were tortured and taken hostage, such a statement is nothing short of abhorrent.

“This is not the first time Jama has made statements that have caused significant hurt and harm to the Jewish community. Her words have brought shame to Ontarians, including her constituents in Hamilton Centre. The implications of her comments extend far beyond the confines of her social media platforms, as they reflect poorly on the Ontario NDP as a whole.

“It is long past time for the Ontario NDP to take decisive action and remove Sarah Jama from its caucus. Her continued presence in the party not only undermines the values and principles that the NDP stands for but also sends a disturbing message that her views are tolerated, or worse, condoned.

“We urge Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles to do the right thing and remove Jama from her caucus without delay.”

FSWC has written to Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles’ office, calling for Jama’s removal.
