FSWC Cautiously Optimistic About McGill's Investigation
Toronto - October 25, 2017 - In reply to Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, McGill University's Principal and Vice Chancellor Professor Suzanne Fortier said "we take such matters very seriously". Fortier's statement outlined steps the university would immediately be taking to address the matter including the launching of an investigation; establishment of a support line and an appointment of a task force to examine equity and inclusivity, among other areas.
FSWC is cautiously optimistic about such a process and in the meantime calls for a suspension of the Student Society of McGill University until the investigation is complete. "If the allegations are true that a student director was removed from the board because he is Jewish, then the university has a responsibility to immediately suspend all further activity of the board until a thorough and unbiased investigation has been conducted" said Avi Benlolo, President and CEO of FSWC.
FSWC conducts regular equity and diversity workshops and would eagerly provide these resources to McGill University and all other institutions confronted by antisemitism, racism and intolerance. Please contact our head office at 416-864-9735 for further information.
