Toronto (June 25, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends the Canadian government for its adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism.
The decision comes as part of the Government of Canada's new anti-racism strategy that was unveiled today.
"As antisemitism rises in this country, universities, provincial governments, unions, church groups, the media and others will have this important tool as a reference point when determining what is and isn't antisemitic," said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.
Examples of antisemitism in the definition include calling for violence against Jewish people; Holocaust denial; denying Jewish people's right to self-determination; using images and symbols associated with classic antisemitism to describe Israel and Israelis; and more.
