Toronto (January 7, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends police for their quick arrest of a man in Granby, Quebec accused of inciting hate online.

Granby police told FSWC that the 38-year-old man is heading to court this afternoon to face one charge of incitement to hatred. Police arrested him yesterday evening after his online posts on a Russian social media site – which reportedly included statements such as “the concentration camp is the greatest Nazi innovation”, “an Aryan world” is his 2020 resolution and that promoted purchasing weapons to hunt minority groups – were exposed by a local professor on Sunday and in an article published in a local newspaper.

The man may face additional charges following a police investigation.   

UPDATE: The man has been charged with inciting hate and advocating genocide and remains in police custody until his next court appearance.
