Toronto (December 4, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends the Royal Canadian Navy for its active investigation following reports that a Navy reservist based in Calgary has a long history of involvement in a neo-Nazi group.

The reservist was involved in the combat wing of the group Blood and Honor – a group recognized by Canada as a terrorist organization. The reservist’s identity was exposed after an anonymous computer hacker downloaded all the contents of a neo-Nazi website called Iron March and posted the information on the internet. This “data dump” also revealed that 10 other current or prospective members of the Canadian military were also involved with the website as well as 76 other Canadian individuals not known to be affiliated with the military, according to news reports.

“It is shocking and frightening to think that members of our military could be involved in neo-Nazi and terrorist organizations,” said Avi Benlolo, president and CEO of FSWC. “We expect to see a coordinated effort by our police services to ensure that any Canadians involved in violent and illegal hate activities are identified and brought to justice.”

FSWC is calling on law enforcement agencies across the country to aggressively investigate the Iron March data for all Canadian links to neo-Nazi groups.
