Toronto (July 16, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is concerned over Judge Richard Blouin's decision to delay the sentencing of James Sears, editor of Your Ward News.
Sears was found guilty of hate speech against Jews and women. At his sentencing, the judge said he is considering Sears' argument for reopening his trial, despite already having been found guilty.
"I saw Sears smirk and laugh during the trial when disturbing examples of his representations were cited. After the trial, he spoke to media and clearly had no remorse and to my knowledge, never once apologized to women and to the Jewish community. I know that the judge will make the right decision and ensure justice is served in the case of Your Ward News," said Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.
FSWC encourages the court to reconsider this latest turn of events and take into account the many people, including Holocaust survivors, victimized by this horrendous newspaper.
