Toronto (March 13, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) condemns antisemitic slurs that were hurled at Jewish defence lawyers at a recent manslaughter and assault trial in Ottawa.

Defence lawyers Solomon Friedman and Michael Edelson, who are representing the suspect in the case, were inside the courthouse on Tuesday when two men began shouting at the suspect and them. “You’re a piece of s— and so are those dirty f—ing Jew lawyers," one of the men yelled.

“Regardless of the public’s thoughts on the case and suspect, it is extremely deplorable that lawyers who are simply doing their jobs are attacked with antisemitic slurs,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.

Police officers are reportedly working to identify the two men involved in the incident, while additional security measures have been put in place.
