FSWC Condemns Reported Hateful Attack Against Student in Toronto

Toronto (January 12, 2018) – FSWC was dismayed to hear of an attack inToronto on a Grade 6 girl making her way to school. According to mediareports, the yet-to-be-identified assailant took a scissor to the young Muslimstudent’s hijab, cutting it away from her head, attacking her twice in the spanof ten minutes.

“No one, especially a child, should suffer such an outrageous andfrightening display of intolerance," said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. "We urge police to investigate all thecircumstances of this assault, including hate as a motivating factor behindit."  

"As the investigation unfolds, we will reach out to the affectedschool community to offer our Tour for Humanity programming where we inspireCanadians of all ages and backgrounds to take action against hate andintolerance and to promote justice and human rights every day."
