Toronto (March 29, 2018) - Friends ofSimon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) condemns the apparent film screening takingplace this evening at the University of Ottawa.  Hosted by RevolutionaryStudent Movement UOttawa, according to the event page on Facebook the ‘IsraeliApartheid Week’ event will screen a documentary about Leila Khaled, a member ofthe Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine who was involved in planehijackings in 1969 and 1970 targeting Israelis.

“It is disturbing to see yetanother event being held on a university campuscontrary to Canadian values of anti-racism and human rights,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “This eventis particularly appalling as the documentary in question glorifies a hijackerbelonging to a listed terrorist entity by our government.”

Last week, FSWC sent letters toall Canadian University presidents whose campuses were hosting ‘IsraeliApartheid Week’ events expressing concern and to ensure campuses are respectfuland inclusive environments for all.
