Toronto (May 23, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) condemns the World Health Organization for passing a biased resolution that wrongly blames Israel for the Palestinian health crisis.

The resolution, titled "Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan," was passed with 96 countries voting in favour, 11 against and 21 abstaining.

"Once again, the United Nations fails to recognize the true violators of Palestinian rights, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, who fund terror and rockets instead of hospitals and basic health care. Hamas continues to use Palestinians as human shields and incite them to violence to create the exact international outrage as exhibited by WHO," said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo."This resolution is just another way for UN member states to unfairly target Israel while not bringing the attention necessary to extreme health crises occurring in other countries such as Syria, Venezuela and Yemen."

“Aside from Gaza, the report covers East Jerusalem and the Golan – areas that are a part of Israel and where all citizens receive medical care to the same degree as other Israeli citizens, should they want it. To suggest otherwise is simply wrong.”

FSWC commends the 11 countries that took a stand against the resolution - including Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Australia.
