Toronto (October 26, 2023) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is appalled to learn that an antisemitic death threat was directed at a Jewish physician in Mississauga, according to news reports.

FSWC was notified earlier this evening by Peel Regional Police of a police investigation into a reported threat of violence directed at a Jewish physician affiliated with Trillium Health Partners.

According to a statement issued today by Peel police, the incident is being investigated as hate-motivated.

“During this time of immense turmoil stemming from the Israel-Hamas war, it's painful to witness this extreme surge in antisemitism across the Greater Toronto Area," said FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt. "It is in times of crisis that we see a resurgence of antisemitism, and this is particularly evident when there's conflict in the Middle East. This latest incident is a reminder that antisemitism continues to fester in our society and must be confronted."
