Toronto (January 29, 2020) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is calling for action from York University administration after Monday’s multicultural parade was officially opened by a student wearing a shirt that said “anti-Zionist vibes only.”
In a letter today to York President Rhonda Lenton, copied to the York Board of Governors and VP Students as well as to Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce, FSWC expressed its outrage about this latest example of unfettered antisemitism on the York campus and demanded that the administration take rapid and decisive action to address the incident.
“For the leading speaker of an event celebrating multiculturalism to promote hate and discrimination against the Jewish community is absolutely beyond the pale,” the letter states. “If this person had worn a shirt promoting hatred towards any other minority group, we are certain that the university would have taken swift action. We expect no double standards from your administration. Hatred against Jews cannot be tolerated at York or any other university.”
