TORONTO (December 11, 2017) -Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is denouncingwhat appeared to be an antisemitic claim that Jews were responsible for9/11. The rally took place in downtown Toronto on Saturday, December9th.
A man standing at the rally amongst others wore a poster stating"911 Was A Zionist Job". Israelis and Jews being responsible for the9/11 attacks is a conspiracy theory widely circulated throughout the Arab andMuslim world to rationalize and fuel global antisemitism and hatred forIsrael.
"We are disappointed that rally organizers would permitracism and antisemitism at their event. It appears that in this particularcase, the man pictured was unencumbered by the people milling about him. Mostdisconcerting is that while media was reporting on the rally, it failed tomention the hatred being propagated at the event," said Avi Benlolo,President and CEO of FSWC.
In another outrageousincident, a Jewish-Orthodox looking man held a banner that read: "TorahDemands All Palestine be returned to Palestinian Sovereignty outrageous.
"Propaganda like this and others that delegitimizes Jewish history, calls Jews 'occupiers' and Israel an 'apartheid state' foments hate and intolerance against Jewish people. Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center strongly condemns these assertions and encourages public officials, law enforcement and the media to speak out against them," Benlolo added.
